DEV LOG 1. “I think we’re just getting started.”

It’s time to get back to it. Updates might have been missing in action these past few months, but not anymore. The next battle-ready update on ODST RECON’s hardware is now being manufactured, courtesy of Misriah Armory (just pretend, man) and with it will come extra wiggle room for new content.

Now what that playful hyperbole actually means is that I am working on a few things right now, with many others set for production down the pipeline. First and foremost, I am reformatting the game. Making space and spreading things out amongst more pages. This comes with learning a new program as I move away from Google Docs and get set to upgrade this RPG from 9 pages to a yet to be determined numeral! Google Docs was simple and got the job done pretty well, but I’m moving on to some open source goodness (Hello, LibreOffice). With this I will have much more freedom of design and, my favorite part, less headaches from dealing with Google Docs’ many limitations :D

Plus, exciting news! with more space means I can increase the font size from 10 to… 11! Eyes of all types will now have a (slightly) easier time reading! Riveting developments from this here Resident Radiant, truly.

Now, now, speaking of redesigns, pages full of nothing but text are nice and all… but I am wanting to add some life to this project. What I have in mind are using screenshots from Halopedia. Something which I feel to be a fairly neutral source. Creating a project for an already existing IP comes with legal matters that a more original project does not have to deal with. Still working on my legalese so I’ll play it safe with art.

Screenshots simply pasted in wouldn’t look great. A more stylized, monochrome look like this could work well.

It’s also printer friendly! Ooooh, aaaah

With this, I’ll be getting a sense of art direction and also make reading this RPG not feel totally lifeless. I can feed two birds with one scone! This is a good starting point to get a sense of art direction.

I now have time to devote again to this project. What I want is to have this be out there so it can find people and help them have a good time reliving that certain original Halo experience that has been missing all these years. An added bonus will be talking with folks who like the project and want to add their ideas and input to this project. Several congregated digital minds are better than one they say!

Extras

I’ve also set up some social media. I’m a bit of a boomer of a zoomer and I’ve never really used social media before so posting is new to me. But! Gotta learn if I wanna update people and share what I’m working on.

Take your pick for X or Bluesky here. I post pretty similarly to both so pick your favorite flavor of Twitter.
